about

Erlend Skomsvoll is currently one of the most profiled jazz composers in Norway. Trondheim Jazz Orchestra is one of the leading large jazz ensembles in the country and is characterized by continuously changing constellations and projects with great variation in artistic expression.

Trondheim Jazz Orchestra’s (TJO) collaboration with the Norwegian composer Erlend Skomsvoll has been quite a story. First in 2000 , a collaboration with Chick Corea, re-arranging Coreas famous tunes, and giving them new life. Then with Pat Metheny in 2002. Both shows where premiered at Molde Jazz, and was followed up by tours in Norway.

The Chick Corea project was also released on CD: “Live in Molde” (2005). The project also represented Norway in New York during the IAJE convention in, and at the Tokyo Jazz Festival in 2006.

In 2007 Mid Norway Jazz Society commissioned a work from Erlend Skomsvoll. The work had its first performance at the Kongsberg Jazz Festival and in Copenhagen Jazz Festival 2007.

…nothing less than fantastic… the listener is constantly surprised and entertained…
a New Orleans funeral march meets Erik Satie; bebop was succeeded by Piazzolla and Stockhausen…. – Information, Copenhagen

A challenging, incredibly dynamic, but also a funny and engaging concept, where strong solistic initiatives, and a solid collective lifts the compositions of Skomsvoll to an exciting and vigorous experience for the listener. – Bergens Tidene

The commissioned work was recorded in Rainbow Studio with Jan Erik Kongshaug, and was released in April 2009.
